Horror HousematesPart 1 of 6: This 52 page comic introduces 4 monsters who have been containing an evil spirit for many years, after deciding to visit the nearby village for a break they unintentionally give the spirit the key to freedom.

The resident monsters; Dylan (Bottom left) a fairly young vampire who hasn't mastered the art of being scary, Miranda (Bottom middle) a kind hearted ghost and Dylan (Top right) the sarcastic test subject of Dr. Frankenstein are only semi aware of hat is going on in their basement. Only John (Middle left) the last person to see the spirit knows what really happened, grumpy and refusing to spill any secrets he finally caves and allows the others to visit the village. On one condition. No trouble! After being well received at the Staffordshire University Degree show this comic is being sold at MCM and Comic Con events! |

The Queen of the Light elves invites the girl to come and see their home as well as learn about the evil Dark elves. |
The Acid Bath KillerHorrible Histories style comic about the Acid Bath Killer, narrated by a sarcastic student to explain and comment on the actions of John Haigh.
For this comic everyone was given a time period to investigate and choose a story to turn into a 12 page comic. These stories were then combined into a collection called Drawn from History. My only constraint was I couldn't use the second world war. I chose the story of John Haigh, a murderer who used acid to destroy corpses and incriminating evidence and then used his skill at forgery to write letters and cheques making it seem that the victim was still alive and well. He even had the nerve to go and visit a victims parents! However he hadn't anticipated them wanting to see their son, to see what happened click below. |
1st Year uni work:
Molly Leigh MysteryThe Molly Leigh Mystery is a 12 page comic, the brief was to write a story set in or based in Stoke on Trent.
This comic is based on a a real person/some rumors and legends surrounding Molly Leigh. Born in 1685, Margaret 'Molly' Leigh lost her parents when she was very young, shunned for her 'strange ways' and described as 'hideously ugly', she spent most of her life alone. It is said that Parson Spencer accused her of being a witch when he noticed she rarely attended church, Molly's pet blackbird which was known to attack locals who shouted at or hurt Molly also fueled the rumors. Molly died in 1746 after being tried as a witch... This comic features Olly, a young first year uni student who is experiencing a modern twist on what Molly lived through. |
Rapunzel Re-ImaginedRe-imagined version of the Rapunzel fairy tale, this comic is wordless so everyone can follow the story.
Part of a project revolving around how people communicate and enjoy stories. I was allocated Rapunzel as the fairy tale to base this comic on, during a lesson the class discussed how language can unify but also separate. For example a comic in Spanish or German will not be as immersive for anyone who does not understand them as even if they can follow the pictures, a lot of the story can still be lost. Aside from the Title, name and final panel there are no words in this comic. This comic is aimed at anyone who enjoys fairy tales and cartoons/comics but is especially popular among children. |
